First Entry and Mid Season Awards
I am starting off with my mid season awards:
Hart Trophy
Most Valuable Player To His Team, voted by the media
Nominees: Steven Stamkos, Sidney Crosby, Dustin Byfuglien
Winner: Sidney Crosby. He has been the total package offensively and defensively. He plays power play penalty kill, you name it, and does it well. Really stepped up on the penalty kill this season with Pittsburgh's top penalty killer Jordan Staal out with an injury for the first 35 games of the year. The only way he doesn't win this award at the end of the season is if his concussion is worse that people think that it is.
Ted Lindsay Award
Most Outstanding Player, voted by his peers
Nominees: Sidney Crosby, Steven Stamkos, Martin St Louis
Winner: Sidney Crosby edges Steven Stamkos out by a nose.
Like I said earlier, he might not win this if his concussion is worse than expected and he would win this for all the same reasons he would win the Hart Trophy
James Norris Trophy
Best Defenseman
Nominees: Kris Letang, Dustin Byfuglien, Nick Lidstrom
Winner: Nick Lidstrom
The top scorer among D men has been dynamite for the Red Wings. Scoring a ton, and with his usual smart defensive play, it makes him the best defense man in the league for the first half.
Frank Selke Award
Best Defensive Forward
Nominees: Ryan Kesler, Mike Richards, Sidney Crosby
Winner: Ryan Kesler
Ryan Kesler has been great as usual this year for the Canucks, and this year like last year has combined offensive touch with it. But his defense really sticks out as his strong suit.
Calder Memorial Trophy
Best Rookie
Nominees: Taylor Hall, Jeff Skinner, Logan Couture
Winner: Jeff Skinner
Jeff Skinner has been one of the main sources of offense from this Carolina team, Skinner has been doing so good in fact that he is on pace to get 64 points. More than the likes of Matt Duchene, and John Tavares in their rookie seasons last year.
Vezina Trophy
Best Goalie
Nominees: Tim Thomas, Henrik Lundqvist, Carey Price
Winner: Tim Thomas
Tim Thomas while many goalies have been having great years, he is in the top five in all the major statistics which no other goalie can say.
Lady Byng Memorial Trophy
Most Gentlemanly Player While Maintaining A High Level Of Play
Nominees: Loui Eriksson, Martin St Louis, Anze Kopitar
Winner: Martin St Louis who would be a repeat winner from last year
He has the most points out of those three gentlemen, and the second least penalty minutes with 8.
Jack Adams Award
Best Coach
Nominees: Marc Crawford, Alain Vigneault, Dave Tippett
Winner: Marc Crawford
He turned the Stars from a team who at the begining of the year everyone thought was going to be near the bottom of the western conference, to a team that is beating San Jose and Los Angeles for the division title.
Well that is the end of my mid season awards, I would have put Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy too, but it currently is being held by Sidney Crosby so there is no point in putting it in.

Great. Love your blog site.
ReplyDeleteGood Blog Ian ... you nailed the 1st half really well. The choice of of Jeff Skinner over Taylor Hall is correct for now, but a stronger 2nd half from Taylor will give him the award, because the writers love "Name" or high profile players.
