The top 5 players will have longer descriptions, but for the rest of the players I will give a brief description.
1.Sean Couturier, C
Drummondville (QMJHL)
He has 19 goals, 43 assists, and a total of 62 points. He also has great size at 6-4, and 195 pounds, he will want to fill out, but he still has great size. Couturier has great speed and skating ability. This year Couturier really focused on defense, and with his incredible offensive upside, and now above average defense, he is my mid season #1.
2.Adam Larsson, D
Skellefetea (SEL)
Offense like Nick Lidstrom, and a body size like Ulf Samuelsson, He is 6-3, and 220 pounds. This guy is great offensively and defensively, he uses his size very well to make it tough on the oppostion, and is always calm in the defensive end. He had a great World Juniors and really contributed defensively. Larsson isn't the fastest skater, but he does look smooth and has good skating ability.
3.Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, C
Red Deer (WHL)
More of a playmaker and scouts are saying he sees the ice better than anyone in this draft with 13 goals, but he still has 43 assists and a total of 56 points. He is kind of like Patrick Kane in size and style of play. He is only 6 feet, and 170 pounds. He is amazing offensively consistently putting up points. He is a fast skater too.
4. Gabriel Landeskog, RW
Kitchener (OHL)
He has good size at 6 feet, and 205 pounds. And Landeskog will do anything for his team, whether it is fighting, blocking shots, going to the front of the net to score greasy goals, he will do anything. He doesn't have the dynamic offense like a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, or a Sean Couturier, but he makes up for it with his supreme two way play. He has drawn many comparisons to Mike Richards...a Swedish Mike Richards, although he Landeskog speaks perfect english with no accent, which may be good in a league where most players are North American. He is good at skating.
5.Jonathan Huberdeau, C
Saint John (QMJHL)
At 6-1, and 168 pounds, he really needs to fill out his frame, but like Nugent-Hopkins, he still puts the puck in the net. He is second in QMJHL scoring with 67 points. He has 27 goals and 40 assists. He sees the ice well and nows how to put the puck in the net. He may want to work on foot speed.
6.Dougie Hamilton, D
Niagara (OHL)
He has good size, but like most of these players, he needs to fill out his frame. Hamilton is 6-4, and 190 pounds. He has good size but needs to learn how to use it better, he isn't that great at hitting. He is a good skater and is pretty fast. He can produce offense, he has 7 goals and 38 points this year, and despite not using his size enough, his is still quite good in the defensive end.
7.Ryan Murphy, D
Kitchener (OHL)
Ridiculously good in the offensive end, has 17 goals and 52 points this year. He is on the smaller side of things at 5-10, and 168 pounds. He is kind of like Mike Green, in the way that, he is dynamite in the offensive zone, but definitely needs work in the defensive zone. He is a little sloppy in the defensive end., but can skate really well.
8. Ryan Strome, C
Niagara (OHL)
He has 24 goals and 65 points, sohe is quite the offensive guy. He has decent size at 6 feet and 183 pounds, maybe a shade small, but not really an issue there. Decent in the defensive end but nothing to rave about. And he does have great wheels.
9.Brandon Saad, LW
Saginaw (OHL)
Good size at 6-1, and 208 pounds. He has 23 goals and 43 points, but is really more of a two way forward, and he can hit quite well. He is also a good skater.
10. Duncan Seimans, D
Saskatoon (WHL)
Seimans is a big guy at 6-3 and 197 pounds, he uses his size well and hits well. In the WHL he has put up some offensive numbers but scouts like him more for his defensive play, and they think he will be a defensive defensman in the NHL.
11. Tyler Biggs, Rw
USA U-18 Program
Biggs is a big power forward at 6-2, and 210 pounds. He does get some points, but is known more for intimidation, and defensive play. He is a power forward that skates with power.
12. Joel Armia, RW
Assat (SM-Liiga
Armia is a Fin, with good size at 6-3, and 191 pounds. He is more of a playmaker than a goal scorer, but can score pretty well. His defense is passable but not his strong suit. He is a strong skater.
13. Jonas Brodin, D
Farjestad (SEL)
A two way D man who is good at both ends of the ice but isn't amazing in either one, His skating is great. He has a great first pass. He is just a good alround D man. He is 6-1 and 172 pounds, so he might want to fill out his frame a little bit.
14. Nathan Beaulieu, D
Sain John (QMJHL)
Beaulieu has good size at 6-2, and 185 pounds. He is a good two way defenseman who contributes at both ends of the ice. He is a good skater. And is also a good passer.
15. Sven Bartschi, LW
Portland (WHL)
Quite small in height at 5-10, but has good weight at 185 pounds. He is a fast skater that creates a lot of offense. Bartschi has 24 goals and 52 points.
16. Ty Rattie, RW
Portland (WHL)
He is small at 6 feet, and 170 pounds, but makes up for it with skating ability and offensive scoring and just creating offense. His defense is questionable.
17. Matt Puemple, LW
Peterborough (OHL)
He has a knack for getting points, he has a good shot and good skating ability, defense is questionable though. Puemple does have good size though at 6 feet and 198 pounds.
18. Victor Rask, C
Leksand (Swe-1)
Good scorer, amazing skating, dominance in the faceoff dot, and good size at 6-2, and 194 pounds, he can also play at both ends of the ice.
19. David Musil, D
Vancouver (WHL)
Musil is a giant at 6-4 and 200 pounds. He skates well and has extremely good passing ability. He knows how too use his size to his advantage too.
20. Rickard Rakell, RW
Plymouth (OHL)
Rakell has pretty good size at 6-1 and 191 pounds. He has 16 goals and 16 assists this year with the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL. Rackell has a powerful shot that has just above average acuracy. Rackell is also responsible in the defensive end. Rackell loves to score.
21. Mika Zibanejad, C
Djurgarden (SWE Jr)
Zibanejad has an off the charts compete level, and off the charts creativity with the puck. He has good wheels and decent size at 6-2 and 191 pounds.
22. Shane Prince, LW
Ottawa (OHL)
21 goals, 55 assists, and 76 points should say it all about his offensive ability. He is only 5-11 and 185 pounds, but isn't too small. Prince sees the ice really well though. He has has fantastic speed and skating ability.
23. Mark Scheifele, C
Barrie (OHL)
Scheifele only has 10 goals but has 35 assists and is a fabulous playmaker. He is 6-3 and 177 pounds, so he may want to fill out to play at the NHL level, some people say that he is a similar player to Joe Thornton.
24. Mark McNeill, C
Prince Albert (WHL)
McNeill is 6-2 and 210 pounds. He is more of a power forward. But he is a power forward that knows how to put the puck in the net, as McNeill has 20 goals, and he knows how to set up other people so they can put the puck in the net. He is a good skater that works hard in both ends of the ice.
25. Jamie Oleksiak, D
Northeastern University (H-East)
Oleksiak is the most phisically mature player in the draft at 6-7, and 242 pounds he towers over everyone. He won't score many goals or get many points but he is a huge physical presence with a booming slap shot, (where most of his goals come from). He is a little slow, but can you blame him? It's hard for big guys to be fast skaters.
26. Daniel Catenacci, C
Sault St. Marie (OHL)
Above average goal scorer and playmaker with 20 goals and 30 assists. Catenacci is small at 5-10, and 185 pounds, same size as Sven Bartschi. He is Lightning quick, and has a quick release shot that is quite accurate.
27. Zack Phillips, C
Saint John (QMJHL)
Phillips has an average size of 6 feet and 180 pounds. Prolific goal scorer with 27 goals goals, and he has 35 assists. Has great creativity with the puck, and he works really hard on and off the ice.
28. Nicklas Jensen, RW
Oshawa (OHL)
At 6-3 and 188 pounds Jensen is already physically ready for the NHL. So far in the OHL he has 21 goals and 21 assists for 42 points. He has a great shot, and is a strong skater with great vision for the ice.
29. Rocco Grimaldi, C
USA U-18 Program
Rocco Grimaldi is very shifty and creative with the puck, and he has to be, Grimaldi is only 5-6 and 163 pounds. He has a quick release and an accurate shot, his shot isn't that hard though. Grimaldi sees the ice very well, even though he is usually flying around at very high paces. If this guy was bigger he would be vying for a top 15 to top 10 spot in the draft
30. Christopher Gibson, G
Chicoutimi (QMJHL)
Gibson has a pretty average height of 6-1 but has been one of the best goalies if not the best goallie in the QMJHL. Gibson boasts a 9.30 Save Percentage, and a 2.07 Goals Against Average. Watch for this guy to be the only goalie drafted in the first round.
Well that wraps up my top 30 mid season draft rankings. I hope you like them.
